Class Parents
Class Parent volunteers help teachers communicate with the other families in the class and help plan in-class events. They serve as the class point of contact for the classroom teacher, the PTA, and other parents in the class. If you are interested, or have questions, you can reach out to ps10cp@gmail.com.
How to become a Class Parent:
The PTA has a goal of having two class parents per classroom. At the beginning of the school year, the PTA will send out a Google form for interested people to complete. If more than two people sign up, the last person who filled out the form will be offered another role when possible. Once the form is closed, you, your fellow class parent and your teacher(s) will be notified. On Konstella, the PTA admin will add you to the Class Parent Committee and assign you as the Lead in your class channel.
What does a Class Parent do?
There are many ways class parents support the classroom. This will vary by teacher, so check in with yours on their needs. A few examples include:
- Facilitate communications between the parents in your class, and social engagements for the kids:
- Introduce yourself so the parents in your classroom know who you are, and ask other parents to help you with your tasks — the more the merrier!
- Schedule meetups for the kids/parents in your class
- Set up a WhatsApp Group or use your class Konstella group for quick communications
- Be the connection between the PTA and your classroom. We encourage you to attend PTA meetings to help the PTA stay in-the-loop by bringing opportunities or challenges to the PTA’s attention, and also taking this information back to your classrooms to relay. School events and fundraisers often need help from Class Parents — you will play a vital role in rallying volunteers. In these cases, the PTA will send notifications to you to share with your class.
- Attend PTA meetings as your schedule allows
- Encourage parents to attend upcoming PTA meetings
- Encourage parents to volunteer for PTA events
- Communicate and rally support for PTA events and fundraisers
- Organize teacher gifts: A class gift can be a small gesture of appreciation for your teacher. Class Parents are the leads in organizing teacher appreciation gifts from the class. This often means collecting contributions and getting the gift to the teacher. No parent has to contribute anything to a class gift, but all children/families will be listed on the card. Your kind words to staff members—in cards, emails, or verbally—are what mean the most.
